Casciana Terme is approx. 35 km from Pisa, in a hilly region between the rivers Casciana and Era, fascinating countryside dominated by vineyards and century-old olive groves. It is one of the most important towns in Colline Pisane. It was probably founded during the Etruscan period, the town was already mentioned in the 9th century chronicles as "Castrum ad Aquas" which indicates a thermal spa town in those days. The roads in the centre of the thermal spa town have retained their original charm - a walk to Casciana Alta or Pietraia is full of surpises and things to see: the small castle, the columned walks and the barns carved in volcanic limestone, then there is Collemontanino, Parlascio and Ceppato with their houses, towers, paths and pine groves. There are further sights to see nearby in Volterra with its Etruscan treasures, the predominantly medieval towns of San Miniato and San Gimignano, Castiglioncello with its rocky coastline and Versilia between the beach and sophisticated life.
