Church of El Salvador

The Iglesia El Salvador in Nerja is a baroque church, built between 1697 and 1724. It is recognizable by its distinctive bell tower with an octagonal top. The church interior comprises three naves; the main nave is equipped with a Mudéjar wooden ceiling. Particularly impressive are the depictions of the Archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, with Michael being venerated as the patron saint of Nerja. The church also contains a mural by Francisco Hernández depicting the Annunciation, as well as a bronze statue of Christ by Aurelio Teno. In front of the church stands an Araucaria, a tree from South America, planted at the beginning of the 20th century. The nearby Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama Natural Park offers numerous hiking trails with varying levels of difficulty. A popular route takes you to the impressive waterfalls of the Río Chíllar, where you can refresh yourself in the clear water. For lunch, you can enjoy a picnic in nature or visit one of the cozy eateries near the park. Day 3
