Freiburg (CH)

The 76 m high tower of the Freiburg Cathedral impressively rises into the air. After climbing the tower of St. Nicholas, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the city. The sacred building is famous for its colorful stained glass windows. The Loreto Chapel in baroque style also offers a great view. During a tour of Freiburg, you can see 200 Gothic facades on the houses. A funicular takes you comfortably from the lower to the upper town. In the narrow streets, you will find many shops and antique stores, restaurants, and cafes. A hidden gem for families is the Puppet Museum.

Gruyères

Surrounded by the mighty peaks of the Fribourg Pre-Alps and lush green meadows, Gruyère lies at the gateway to the upper Saane Valley. A visit to the castle is worthwhile: here you will find a museum about the history of your holiday destination. Sculptures and paintings by Oscar winner HR Giger can be seen in the museum dedicated to him. Gourmets visit the show dairy, where they learn interesting facts about the production of Gruyère cheese. It is used for fondues and as double cream in desserts. A tour of the Maison Cailler chocolate factory delights those with a sweet tooth. Murten

With its winding old town alleys, arcades, and lakeside promenade, Murten exudes historical charm. From the walkable ring wall that encircles the town, you have a magnificent view over the rooftops and Lake Murten. You can learn more about the 6,000-year history of the locality at the Murten Museum. Hiking and cycling enthusiasts will get their money's worth on the well-developed paths around Murten. A circular hike leads around Lake Murten and to the Mont Vully viewpoint. It is also worthwhile to experience Lake Murten from the water side, for example, on a boat trip or during water sports.

Estavayer-le-Lac

Start your tour of Estavayer-le-Lac in the old town. From the Place de Moudon, you have a beautiful view over the Jura. On a hill north of the old town stands the Chenaux Castle. From here, you can reach the Frog Museum in a few minutes. 108 preserved frogs depict everyday scenes: you can see them at a feast, in school, or working in a notary's office. Now, Lake Neuchâtel beckons with its bathing beaches. In summer, the water ski lift is a great experience for young and old, and beautiful hiking trails lead through the hinterland.

Bulle

At the foot of the Freiburg Pre-Alps lies the rural town of Bulle. Overlooking the marketplace, where you can buy the famous Gruyère cheese at the weekly market, is a 13th-century castle. Nearby, you can delve into the town's history at the Musée gruérien. During your stay in Bulle, a Fribourg cheese fondue is a must. The Swiss national dish, made half with Gruyère and half with Vacherin cheese, is on the menu at many restaurants in Bulle. Just a few minutes away, the La Chia area invites you to hike in the summer and ski in the winter.

Charmey

A well-developed network of hiking and mountain biking trails leads, for example, to Charmey's panoramic mountain Vounetz, from which you have great views of the Pre-Alps, or to alpine farms where the famous Le Gruyere cheese is made. Climbers can enjoy themselves in the rope park or on the steep slopes of the Gastlosen. Charmey's local mountain Vounetz transforms into a winter sports paradise in the cold season with illuminated cross-country ski trails, a snow park, and snowshoe routes. You can comfortably reach the top with the gondola lift. Skiers can pursue their passion in the nearby small ski area Jaun, which is characterized by family-friendly slopes and four lifts.

Les Paccots

On a well-marked network of trails, you can explore the untouched nature around Les Paccots by hiking, mountain biking, or Nordic walking. Gruyères, home of the famous Gruyère cheese, and Lake Geneva are also not far away. Several gourmet trails bring you closer to traditional Swiss cuisine in cozy mountain restaurants. In the cold season, winter sports enthusiasts come to Les Paccots to enjoy the family-friendly slopes in the ski area of the same name. In the children's snowland, the youngest ones make their first turns. Snowshoe hikes lead along wooded hills and clearings. Plenty of winter fun is also promised by the covered ice rink of Les Paccots with an adjoining restaurant.

Moléson-sur-Gruyères

On the roof of the mountain station above Moléson-sur-Gruyères, a breathtaking view opens up to you: The panorama stretches from Lake Geneva over the peaks of the Bernese Oberland and Mont Blanc to the Jura and the Three-Lakes Region. In the restaurant of the mountain station, you can enjoy delicious hearty specialties. In winter, 30 kilometers of slopes are available to you, and in summer, beautiful hiking trails beckon. The Via ferrata du Moléson features two climbing routes. Nearby, there is a show dairy. A trip to Greyerz Castle in the municipality of the same name is worthwhile, which you can reach in about 30 minutes by train.

Black Lake
